Shixwameni quits Swapo

THE former Swapo Regional Councillor for the Rundu rural west constituency, Herbert Shixwameni, ended his membership of the ruling party yesterday.

In a handwritten fax, Shixwameni informed Swapo Secretary General Dr Ngarikutuke Tjiriange in just seven lines that he would resign “with immediate effect on November 28 as a member”. Shixwameni is allegedly helping his brother Ignatius to form a new political organisation, the Namibia People’s Party (NPP) in the Kavango, according to sources.The brothers could not be reached for comment.Herbert Shixwameni resigned as Regional Councillor last month.He was a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2004.Ignatius Shixwameni, a former Deputy Information Minister, left Swapo in 1999 and became a founder member of the Congress of Democrats.Shixwameni is allegedly helping his brother Ignatius to form a new political organisation, the Namibia People’s Party (NPP) in the Kavango, according to sources.The brothers could not be reached for comment.Herbert Shixwameni resigned as Regional Councillor last month.He was a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2004.Ignatius Shixwameni, a former Deputy Information Minister, left Swapo in 1999 and became a founder member of the Congress of Democrats.
