Shipping man hit by fraud charges

POLICE at Luederitz have arrested a shipping company supervisor for allegedly stealing 125 000 litres of diesel valued at N$750 000.

Kristomus Kwedhi (42), who worked for Luederitz Bay Shipping & Forwarding Company, is accused of allegedly siphoning the diesel from storage tanks between January and September, according to NamPol’s Deputy Commissioner Josephat Abel. He said the alleged fraudulent activity was uncovered following a tip-off from members of the public.Kwedhi will appear in the Luederitz Magistrate’s Court on a charge of fraud today.He faces another fraud charge for allegedly not paying hotel bills at the town’s Bay View and Zum Sperrgebiet hotels.The alleged bilking, which cost the hotels N$2 677, took place between October 5 and 6.Kwedhi appeared in the Luederitz Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with this case.No bail was granted.He said the alleged fraudulent activity was uncovered following a tip-off from members of the public.Kwedhi will appear in the Luederitz Magistrate’s Court on a charge of fraud today.
