Shipanga apologies to Haufiku

Businessmann Martin Shipanga has retracted the statement he made last year, accusing the former minister of health and social services, Dr Bernard Haufiku, of using his relatives to steal public money.

Shipanga made the statement on a WhatsApp group called ‘Rundu Project’, of which both he and Haufiku are members.

The apology comes after the former minister approached the Windhoek High Court to demand N$500 000 from Shipanga for “damaging his dignity and reputation”.

“I hereby retract the statements made by myself on 25 June 2023 and I unconditionally apologise for any harm or prejudice/offence it might have caused, as that was not my intention,” the settlement agreement signed on 13 March 2024 reads.

According to the settlement agreement, Haufiku will withdraw the case after Shipanga’s apology.

“Each party pays their own costs in the suit,” the agreement reads.

The medical doctor served as health minister from 2015 to 2018.
