Shiimi denies being related to Namcor acting MD

Shiwana Ndeuyema

Minister of finance and public enterprises Iipumbu Shiimi has denied reports saying he is related to Shiwana Ndeunyema, the acting managing director of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor).

Ndeunyema is Namcor’s executive for business strategy and performance management.

He was appointed as Namcor’s acting managing director, following the suspension of the company’s substantive managing director, Immanuel Mulunga, this week.

Ndeunyema will act in this position until next Monday when he will be replaced by Lionel Matthews.

A local media outlet has reported that Ndeunyema is related to Shiimi’s wife, adding his appointment poses a conflict of interest.

“To put the record straight, Shiwana Ndeunyema is not my relative, nor is he a relative of my wife, but he is someone we know,” Shiimi posted on social media on Wednesday night.

Ndeunyema did not respond to a text message sent to him on Thursday.

Mulunga was suspended following media reports that he made a N$100-million payment to two Angolan oil blocks without the approval of the Namcor board.
