YOUTH Deputy Minister Pohamba Shifeta has urged young people to take a leading role in the fight against HIV-AIDS.
Speaking at Mariental on Friday, Shifeta urged young people to abstain from irresponsible sexual behaviour, saying to do so was “the biggest weapon in the fight against HIV-AIDS”. He noted that people between the ages of 14 and 45 accounted for most of the HIV-AIDS cases reported in Namibia.Shifeta made this plea when he opened the National Youth Council’s Hardap Regional Conference. The aim of the conference was to enhance HIV-AIDS awareness and to elect new leaders for the region’s youth forum.Speaking at the same occasion, Hardap Regional Governor Katrina Hansen urged the delegates to choose leaders with a visionary approach.”We want to see productive youth leaders and not title- and status-hunters who don’t bring about any changes once elected,” she said.He noted that people between the ages of 14 and 45 accounted for most of the HIV-AIDS cases reported in Namibia.Shifeta made this plea when he opened the National Youth Council’s Hardap Regional Conference. The aim of the conference was to enhance HIV-AIDS awareness and to elect new leaders for the region’s youth forum.Speaking at the same occasion, Hardap Regional Governor Katrina Hansen urged the delegates to choose leaders with a visionary approach.”We want to see productive youth leaders and not title- and status-hunters who don’t bring about any changes once elected,” she said.
