Former Eeshoke Chula Chula and current Namibian international Moses Shidolo says he is grateful for the opportunity to showcase his talent abroad, following his crowning as FNB Botswana Premiership Supporters’ Player of the Season on Wednesday.
The award comes after impressing during his debut season in Botswana, during which he was named captain of his team, Matebele FC, and contributed four goals and six assists.
Speaking to The Namibian Sport yesterday, Shidolo described his crowning moment as unforgettable, saying the recognition caps off a challenging but rewarding campaign away from home.
“It was a good feeling hearing my name. When I stood up, I was a bit confused because I had my phone in my hand – I didn’t know what to do,” Shidolo said.
The ex-Chula Chula midfield fulcrum, who was also nominated for the best midfielder award, admitted that winning the prize voted for by followers of the Batswana topflight holds deep meaning.
“This award means a lot to me – both personally and professionally. Judging from the season I had and where we finished, it’s fair enough. I’m grateful,” said Shidolo, who also hoped of claiming the outright league’s best player accolade.
Reflecting on the campaign, the Namibian midfielder singled out his brace against Extension Gunners as a defining moment.
“That game really summed up my season. It was a must-win, and those three points helped us stay clear of relegation,” Shidolo explained.
The Brave Warriors star also pointed to this weekend’s Orange Cup semi-final as an opportunity to end the season on a high.
“We still have the Orange Cup, so the job’s not done. But I’m proud of the boys. They’re doing a good job,” said Shidolo, thanking his supporters – both in Botswana and Namibia – for rallying behind him during the voting process.
“To my fans in Botswana, the love you’ve shown me, even as a foreign player, means a lot. You supported me without judgement, and I’ll never forget that,” Shidolo said.
“Your votes counted massively. I’m truly grateful. I won’t disappoint you. I’ll always give my all wherever I go.
“And to my fans bach home – you guys did the job. Sharing links in groups, rallying behind me… I’m blessed to be loved like this.”
