Shell donates clean-up trailer to City

SHELL Namibia on Tuesday donated an Oil Spill Response Trailer valued at N$170 000 to the City of Windhoek’s Emergency Services.

The manager of the Shell Depot, Leonard Hinterholtzer, handed the trailer to Chief of Emergency Services Giovanni Schoeman. “The trailer is very valuable for the execution of our obligations of saving property.Effective protection of the environment becomes a question of survival. It is against this background that you need to understand the real extent of the value of the donation”, Schoeman said in his speech. There are currently three other such trailers in Namibia, one of which is based in the capital. The Oil Spill Response Trailer is used mainly to contain, control and recover spilled liquid.Usually it is used to collect oil and petroleum that is spilled in car accidents or from broken containers in petrol stations. The trailer is fully equipped with overalls, gloves , empty barrels and a special blanket that absorbs liquid from the ground.”The trailer is very valuable for the execution of our obligations of saving property.Effective protection of the environment becomes a question of survival.
