Prosecutor general Martha Imalwa says the shedding of Ondangwa’s control prosecutor Justine Shiweda’s blood will not defy justice.
She says Shiweda’s blood will become the “cement that strengthens the walls of the courts”.
Imalwa said this at Shiweda’s memorial service at Onambango village in the Oshana region on Friday.
Shiweda died in a Windhoek hospital last Saturday after she was attacked last October.
Six suspects are currently being held in police custody.
Imalwa said Shiweda was “very committed to executing her prosecutorial functions without any fear, favour or prejudice”.
She became a target of those who don’t like peace, democracy and justice, the prosecutor general said.
“Hence, she was attacked in direct retaliation for her integrity,” she said.
“She fell as a martyr of the law; she rose as a heroine of the Republic of Namibia.
“To her precious children, Deverias, Aune and Samuel Shiweda, your mother’s love for you fuelled her courage.
“She worked for a safer Namibia because she wanted you and all children to grow up in a land governed by the rule of law, not the rule of fear,” she said.
Imalwa said when Shiweda joined the Office of the Prosecutor General in 2019, she chose a difficult path.
“From the dust of the North to the plains of the South, she was our ‘relief’ – the one who stepped into the gaps, the one who answered the call without complaint.
“Justine was a quiet person but very strong in her principles; a very strong prosecutor with an upright mind.
“She knows the law and she applied it the way it is written,” Imalwa said.
