Shatilwe wins pool shoot-out

VINITO Shatilwe is the new Carling Black Label Pool Shoot-out champion.Shatilwe, from Mozzarellas’ Extra Hot team in Windhoek, was crowned the winner after he defeated Erastus Shilongo from Mariental and Daniel Emvula from Oshakati in the final of the competition on Saturday at The Gambler in Okuryangava.

In the first final, Shatilwe beat Shilongo in an easy match, winning by six frames to one. Shatilwe played a very technical game by which he shot and placed his balls strategically, and so gave Shilongo a tough time to down his own balls.Shilongo, who was the winner from the Mariental leg of the competition, seemed demoralised when trailing behind Shatilwe and did not line up his shots well, which resulted in most shots going astray. His lack of knowledge of the game also led to his defeat. These tricky shots also helped Shatilwe to get the better of Emvula, whom he defeated 5-1 in a best out of nine frames.Emvula, from Oshakati, beat Shilongo 5-2 in the second final of the day.Emvula’s trouncing of Shilongo set the stage for a very tense final between Shatilwe and Emvula, but it turned out as just another walk-over for Shatilwe.Shatilwe said he plays pool all year long, and it felt good winning the title and N$10 000.He said he does not have plans for his earnings, but might put it into his business of making leather belts.Emvula won N$5 000 and Shilongo N$2 500.The league is expected to kick off in February, while the next Pool Shoot-out is scheduled to start in June 2006.- NampaShatilwe played a very technical game by which he shot and placed his balls strategically, and so gave Shilongo a tough time to down his own balls.Shilongo, who was the winner from the Mariental leg of the competition, seemed demoralised when trailing behind Shatilwe and did not line up his shots well, which resulted in most shots going astray. His lack of knowledge of the game also led to his defeat. These tricky shots also helped Shatilwe to get the better of Emvula, whom he defeated 5-1 in a best out of nine frames.Emvula, from Oshakati, beat Shilongo 5-2 in the second final of the day.Emvula’s trouncing of Shilongo set the stage for a very tense final between Shatilwe and Emvula, but it turned out as just another walk-over for Shatilwe.Shatilwe said he plays pool all year long, and it felt good winning the title and N$10 000.He said he does not have plans for his earnings, but might put it into his business of making leather belts.Emvula won N$5 000 and Shilongo N$2 500.The league is expected to kick off in February, while the next Pool Shoot-out is scheduled to start in June 2006.- Nampa
