Shareholders vote out Salmaan Jacobs from Sored board of directors

SHAREHOLDERS of the Southern Regional Electricity Distributor (Sored) have voted out Karas Chief Regional Officer Salmaan Jacobs as member of its board of directors.

A source informed The Namibian on Thursday that the majority of shareholders voted in favour of the decision to boot Jacobs at its annual meeting at Mariental. The source added that Jacobs also voluntarily resigned as member of the Sored technical committee.According to the source, Jacobs said when he tendered his resignation that the move to get rid of him was part of a “hidden agenda” against him by some shareholders.The source said a replacement for Jacobs would be nominated by the Luederitz Town Council.The shareholders of Sored are nominated by the regional council.These are the Karas regional council, Hardap regional council and Omaheke regional council, village and town councils and NamPower.Sored is expected to become operational in July, The Namibian was informed.The source added that Jacobs also voluntarily resigned as member of the Sored technical committee.According to the source, Jacobs said when he tendered his resignation that the move to get rid of him was part of a “hidden agenda” against him by some shareholders.The source said a replacement for Jacobs would be nominated by the Luederitz Town Council.The shareholders of Sored are nominated by the regional council.These are the Karas regional council, Hardap regional council and Omaheke regional council, village and town councils and NamPower.Sored is expected to become operational in July, The Namibian was informed.
