Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa has called on party members to remain united in honour of former party presidents Hage Geingob and founding president Sam Nujoma.
She was addressing party members at Swapo’s 6th extraordinary congress in Windhoek on Saturday.
The congress, which was supposed to take place last month and was postponed due to the funeral of the founding president, is expected to endorse its vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the president of the party.
“As members of the Swapo party, we must stay united and honour our fallen departed two presidents and carry on their legacy and teachings,” she said.
She said that only by remaining united will the party progress and deliver on its mandates to serve the nation.
She said the party has trust in the leadership of Nandi-Ndaitwah, hence it sought to endorse her unopposed at the last central committee meeting.
