Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa says trees in the Omusati region are beautified by the party’s flag.
She says most of the trees she has seen along the roadside in the region are “decorated in blue, red, and green”.
Shaningwa on Saturday applauded Swapo’s Omusati region coordinator Sacky Kayone for the initiative.
She was speaking at the official opening of the party’s district office at Etayi.
Swapo members and supporters recently hoisted flags on a number of trees at Omukoko village near Outapi, where the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) recently opened its office.
Shaningwa urged party members not to allow the party to be defeated by “people without history”, declaring that Swapo is “here to stay”.
“This time around, we will reclaim our two-thirds majority in parliament,” she said.
Swapo lost its two-thirds majority and 14 seats in the National Assembly in the 2019 elections.
Support for the party also dropped from 77% in 2014 to 65% in 2019.
It further lost its dominance in local authorities during the 2020 regional and local authority elections.
