‘Sexy Cops’ Not The Issue

ALLOW me some space in your paper to respond to the letter ‘Cops Dressed to Kill’.

It is quite worrying to see that our Police officers are not wearing protective gear like bullet-proof vests while on duty (as if it is not bad enough to find that they don’t have sufficient transport to round up suspects)! As an example, not so long ago, a Police officer was stabbed and seriously injured by a drunk, disorderly person. The aforementioned officer’s injuries could have been less serious if he had worn protective clothing. One should not be concerned about how the officers look (professional or not) while on duty, but rather about how they conduct themselves. It is very common, if not standard practice, for detectives not to wear uniforms, so the reader ought not to make a fuss about the lack thereof. We should rather demand from the Finance Minister to give the Police force higher priority when allocating spending power. After all, the Police are the men and women who risk their lives to protect the public. The least we (the voters and politicians) can do is to have them provided with sufficient equipment to do their jobs.Pro-cop Via e-mailThe aforementioned officer’s injuries could have been less serious if he had worn protective clothing. The least we (the voters and politicians) can do is to have them provided with sufficient equipment to do their jobs.Pro-cop Via e-mail
