The police have arrested seven people for possession of cannabis and mandrax across the country over the weekend.
This was revealed in a police report by national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday.
She said three suspects, aged 25, 25 and 30, were arrested at Takarania location at Mariental in possession of cannabis (skunk and pure) at a combined value of N$2 900.
“The suspects were arrested during a stop and search,” she said.
A similar arrest was made after a male (40) was found with two units of crack cocaine valued at N$200 and N$385, sticks of Yes cigarettes valued at N$577 and N$1 128 in cash.
The arrest was made at a house at around 09h20 at the TransNamib location, Shikwambi confirmed.
In another incident, a 20-year-old was arrested at Omashaka at Ondangwa in possession of seven bankies of cannabis worth N$400.
Shikwambi said the drugs weigh eight grams and the suspect was arrested at their house during a police search.
“The suspect will appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on 20 October,” she said.
At Rehoboth, a 37-year-old male suspect was arrested on Friday during an undercover operation after found in possession of four bankies of cannabis skunk, four full mandrax tablets, two half mandrax tablets, one quarter mandrax tablet, all valued at N$2 380.
The suspect was arrested at around 11h45 at Block E.
A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested at Ondangwa after allegedly being found with 11 parcels of cannabis worth N$32 750.
Shikwambi said the suspect will appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the police have confiscated three bags containing cannabis and mandrax tablets valued at N$4 million.
The bags were found under a bridge on Sunday at around 01h20 at the Ariamsvlei Border Post by the border officials during a routine inspection.
Fifty-nine parcels of cannabis, 55 grams of loose cannabis and 4 073 full mandrax tablets were found in the bags.
According to Shikwambi, cannabis is worth over N$3 million while mandrax is estimated to be valued at about N$500 000.
“The substances were registered as found property for further processing and police investigation continues,” Shikwambi said.
