Send children to school – Pohamba

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has urged parents to send their children to school in order to prepare them for challenges that may come their way as they grow older.

The Head of State made the remarks on Monday when he officiated at a ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of construction on the Gobabis-Aminuis-Aranos (MR19) road in Aminuis.

The MR19 road will be upgraded to bitumen standard, and is poised to open windows of opportunity for both locals and investors to tap into the wealth of the region covered by the road.

Pohamba implored parents to do all they can to ensure their children are sent to and kept in school.

He said it was high time that Namibia solely relies on expertise within its borders to drive government’s developmental agenda, as opposed to sourcing such skills beyond the country’s borders.

The President noted that Namibians must build their own country and not wait for others to do it for them.

“I urge you all to send your children to school so that they can be educated and one day return to take your constituency and indeed the entire country to greater heights. We need educated people to drive government’s programmes and cannot do it without the children that you will be sending to school today for tomorrow’s benefit,” he said.

Pohamba highlighted the importance of education, noting that it is only through education that one can bring a positive change to his/her community and the country as a whole.

“We cannot pick anyone from the cattle post to become an engineer or another strategic position. You must have studied and be educated in such a field to be considered for such a job. Therefore, it is imperative on you as parents to make sure that your children gain the necessary education,” he noted. – Nampa
