Selma Kamanya shines at Miss World 2025

Namibia’s Selma Kamanya has placed among the top two African finalists at the Miss World 2025 pageant, held on 31 May at the Hitex Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, India.

Her achievement marks one of Namibia’s strongest performances at the global beauty contest in more than three decades. Kamanya’s placement was boosted by her win in the Top Model challenge, which secured her a spot in the top 40 contestants overall.

Kamanya was also recognised for her work in mental health advocacy and eco-friendly agriculture, carried out through her Innovation Foundation. These efforts contributed to her visibility and performance in the Miss World Challenge segment, which plays a major role in determining regional finalists ahead of the final event.

Kamanya first represented Namibia as Miss Namibia in 2018, and returned to the Miss World platform this year under the Miss NGO Namibia banner. She expressed her gratitude in a message shared on Instagram.

“The love, support and encouragement I have gained from Namibia and the entire world has been just heartwarming. Thanks a million from the bottom of my heart.”

Reflecting on her journey ahead of the competition, she says “I feel so fortunate to be able to represent this beautiful country, and I am excited to take all of you along with me on this journey to India.”

Chairperson of Miss World Namibia Andreas Robert says Kamanya’s selection was based on her proven experience and community work.

“Selma Kamanya was selected as Miss World Namibia 2025 based on her proven track record as a former Miss Namibia, her economics background and her passionate advocacy for mental health and sustainable agriculture. She has been a pride for Namibia.”

Reigning Miss Namibia Prisca Anyolo also congratulated Kamanya, describing her placement as well deserved.

“Reaching the top two from Africa at Miss World is no small feat, and you have made Namibia incredibly proud. The whole nation stands behind you, beaming with pride.”

Meanwhile, the founder and chief executive of the Miss World Organisation, Julia Morley, confirmed that she will visit Namibia before the year ends. The announcement was made during a private reception after the crowning event. Morley praised the Miss NGO Namibia team for its charity work and community outreach across the country.

“Start preparing my visit to Namibia,” she told the team, adding that she wishes to take part in a charity outreach initiative during her trip.

Morley was gifted a traditional Oshiwambo dress and matching accessories, which she received with appreciation as a symbol of cultural exchange and friendship.

The Miss World 2025 title went to Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who was crowned by outgoing queen Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic. This marks Thailand’s first win at the Miss World pageant.

Kamanya’s result is Namibia’s most notable since Michelle McLean’s Top 5 finish at Miss World 1991, a year before she won Miss Universe 1992.
