Former Landless People’s Movement (LPM) deputy leader Henny Seibeb rejoined Swapo at Khorixas on Sunday.
According to a Swapo source who was present when Seibeb was welcomed back in the ruling party, Seibeb was welcomed by Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa.
“[Shaningwa] described Seibeb as a big asset and a knowledgeable person. She also urged the local leadership to tap ideas from him. He was welcomed alongside 200 people who joined Swapo at Khorixas,” the source said.
The party posted a photo of Seibeb wearing a Swapo scarf and holding a Swapo membership card in his hand on social media, with remarks welcoming him back in the party.
Seibeb was not available for comment.
Seibeb resigned from the LPM and as a member of the National Assembly in June this year, following a rocky relationship with LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi.
Seibeb and Swartbooi resigned as Swapo members in 2017 and then founded the LPM, which was registered as a political party in February 2019.
The party won 10 seats in parliament – four in the National Assembly and six in the National Council – in elections held in 2019 and 2020.
