A 63-year-old pensioner died within in an hour of casting her vote at the Okuryangava Women’s Centre yesterday.

Emma Skoonveld from the Wanaheda area was at the polling station by 08h00 but collapsed shortly afterwards as she was walking to her daughter’s home about 200 metres away, another daughter, Lena Uiras, said yesterday. An ambulance was called to take her to hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at 09h00.Uiras said her mother was not a sickly person, although she recently suffered from a stomach complaint.She said her mother appeared fit when she left home to cast her vote and that she had not waited long at the polling station to do so.An autopsy still has to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.On Monday morning, a man died after voting at the Amunganda polling station near Ondangwa.An ambulance was called to take her to hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at 09h00.Uiras said her mother was not a sickly person, although she recently suffered from a stomach complaint.She said her mother appeared fit when she left home to cast her vote and that she had not waited long at the polling station to do so.An autopsy still has to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.On Monday morning, a man died after voting at the Amunganda polling station near Ondangwa.
