Namibia suffered a comprehensive 9-wicket defeat against Scotland in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, in their final warmup match before the start of the T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Namibia won the toss and elected to bat but were soon in trouble whenLP van der Westhuizen and Raymond van Schoor were both dismissed for 1 to leave Namibia reeling at 11/2.
Christi Viljoen and Craig Williams put on 55 runs for the third wicket before Viljoen was out for 47 which came off 43 balls and included four fours and two sixes.
Williams scored 25, JP Kotze was run out for 22 and Sarel Burger scored 14 as Namibia reached 116 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs at a modest average of 5,80 runs per over.
Nicolaas Scholtz got an early breakthrough in Scotland’s innings when he trapped Richie Berrington LBW for 10, but that was the only success Namibia would have as Calum Macleod and Matt Machan put Scotland in charge.
They shared an unbroken century stand at more than 9 runs an over as Scotland reached the winning target off only 12,2 overs.
Macleod was 62 not out off 43 balls while Machan was 43 not out off 27 balls.
It was Namibia’s second warmup defeat after they lost to Kenya by 37 runs on Tuesday.
Namibia’s first match in the T20 qualifiers is against Ireland on Friday.
