Schlettwein unhappy with poor road maintenance at Etosha

Former finance and agriculture minister Calle Schlettwein has expressed disappointment about the poor road maintenance at Etosha National Park.

Schlettwein, who toured the park on Monday, took to his social media, stating that the roads are bad and casting doubts that other infrastructure could also be in a bad state.

“To view all that and enjoy it one has to drive through the park on roads that were not maintained over the years. They are bad, very bad. What a pity that the maintenance of roads (and maybe many other things) in that park is not considered important by those who manage the park,” he says.

He says Etosha National Park is an astounding place with remarkable biodiversity and fantastic landscapes formed by alternating wet and dry cycles during its natural and geological history.

In April, the the Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced the commencement of the long-awaited upgrade of the road between Okaukuejo and King Nehale Gate in Etosha National Park.

The ministry stated that the initial phase of the upgrade will focus on the first 20 kilometres from Okaukuejo, with construction scheduled from 23 April to 30 November.
