Namibia Breweries Limited has confirmed that Savanna will return as the headline sponsor of the Savanna Comedy Hour for the 2026 season.

Launched in 2021, the comedy platform has expanded steadily, producing more than 50 live shows and featuring over 40 local comedians.

The monthly event is hosted at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) every first Thursday of the month and has become a regular fixture on Windhoek’s nightlife calendar.

NBL marketing director Dries van der Sandt says the sponsorship reflects the brand’s focus on entertainment and shared experiences.
“Savanna has always been about creating moments that uplift, connect, and bring people together through humour,” he said at this year’s recent media launch.

“By sponsoring Savanna Comedy Hour, we continue uplifting and uniting the nation through shared laughter while celebrating authentic Namibian talent,” he said.

The platform has provided emerging comedians with an opportunity to perform regularly before live audiences, helping to build a local comedy community that was once largely informal.

Aspiring stand-up comedian Sarah Shipanga at the event said the backing of a major brand has helped elevate the event’s profile and production quality.

“It’s about the atmosphere,” she said. “When you know a brand like Savanna is backing the night, the production value goes up, the crowds are bigger, and as a performer, you feel like your craft is being taken seriously.”

Audience members have also welcomed the continuation of the programme.

Petrus Johannes at a recent show said the event provides a rare space for collective entertainment.

“In a world that feels quite heavy sometimes, having a dedicated space for a bit of a laugh is essential,” he said. “It’s brilliant to see a big brand actually putting its money where our funny bone is.”

Organisers say the 2026 season will continue to mix established comedians with new performers seeking exposure, as the initiative aims to strengthen Namibia’s stand-up comedy sector while maintaining its regular presence at the FNCC.
