Savanna launched the ‘So You Think You’re a Comedian’ show in Windhoek last week.
The show aims to discover and showcase the best comedic talents in Namibia and give them a platform to shine.
Namibian Comedy Awards Committee founder Mitch Goaseb says they are currently on a nationwide search for the funniest, wittiest comedic talent.
The registration opened on 1 August, and auditions will be held from 16 August to 26 October in the major towns of all 14 regions.
The auditions will be followed by a comedy festival in Windhoek in November, with the grand finale being the Comedy Awards in December.
“Savanna is known for its crisp and refreshing cider, but is also passionate about supporting local talent and bringing communities together,” Goaseb says.
He says the talent search will see comedians competing for the prize of being Namibia’s funniest comedian.
“The winner will not only receive bragging rights, but also a cash prize of N$ 50 000 and the opportunity to headline the Namibian Comedy Club Series’ first show of 2025 in February,” he says.
Goaseb says the finalists will be invited to compete in the comedy festival, and four lucky comedians will be selected for the category of SSYTYC Champion for the Savanna Annual Namibian Comedy Awards for public voting.
“We can’t wait to discover the next big name in Namibian comedy and share their talent with the nation. We encourage all aspiring comedians to register and showcase their skills on stage,” he says.
Event organiser Alien Art Studios in a statement said they are excited to partner with Savanna to bring the comedy showdown to Namibia.
“We believe there is a wealth of untapped comedic talent in the country, and we are on a mission to find the next big thing in comedy,” they said.
Fresh FM and OneAfrica will be the event’s official media partners.
Future Media Namibia marketing general manager Zellmari Brandt says they are excited to join and showcase the auditions, both on television and radio.
“Both our brands are deeply committed to nurturing and promoting local creative talent. We’re excited to hit the road with the team, showcasing the auditions on television and radio. We’re also thrilled to offer a free live stream of the grand finale on oneafrica.tv, allowing Namibians to watch from anywhere across the globe,” she says.
Only contestants over the age of 18 at the date of entry are eligible to participate. Interested contestants are advised to go to the campaign website for further details on performance guidelines and the terms and conditions. – unWrap.online
