Urban and rural development minister James Sankwasa has demanded answers from the Stampriet Village Council over the chief executive officer position being vacant for four years.
Sankwasa visited the Office of the Hardap Governor at Mariental on Friday, where he expressed concern over the involvement of councillors in administration matters.
“For four years you don’t have a chief executive? Something is wrong with Stampriet Village Council. You have been involved too much in administration, procurement and recruitment of people. How you rectify this I don’t know. I want to see this position being filled,” Sankwasa said.
He demanded to see a full report on the matter to be sent to his office from the village council and the advertisement of this vacancy attached.
“We have done the process that needs to be done. We put in the effort of appointment. We had a substantive chief executive but the person left us for another position. We further went on with the process and the panel recommended a candidate but she never responded,” Stampriet Village Council chairperson Elretha Kamutindi says.
Sankwasa stated that he will send internal auditors to the Stampriet Village Council for financial and personnel auditing.
The meeting was also attended by the Hardap governor Riaan McNab and the chairperson of the Hardap Regional Council, Gershon Dausab.
