Samsung Makes a Comeback With the New S8

The Samsung Galaxy series has been the most successful venture Samsung’s mobile development team has ever taken on – particularly being one of Apple and LG’s strongest contenders.

From its sleek design to the gorgeous displays, Samsung closes in on their competitors thanks to the introduction of dazzling features. But the world turned topsy turvy for the mobile giant after the cringeworthy Samsung Note 7 disaster last year.

However, the new Galaxy S8 might just bring the mobile giant’s sexy back. Revealed last month, here’s what the new flagship phones have got in store: The 5,8 inch screen that’s flatter than your hand promises a Super Amoled display and a Corning Gorilla Glass back panel, which makes for a pretty good grip. The interesting thing is that the home button is no longer there, so if your phone freezes, you’re going to run into a couple of problems. Nonetheless, this multi-touch phone comes with pretty impressive hardware including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 83 and a CPU that’s fast and efficient.

Not happy with the 64GB internal memory? The phone comes with a microSD card slot in the single SIM-card model which can extend it up to 256GB – definitely more points over Apple. Toning down the camera, the S8 offers a 12-megapixel front camera with panorama, touch focus and up to 2 160 pixels at 30 frames per second worth of video quality. The secondary camera comes in at eight megapixels which means Samsung is taking selfies (and Snapchat-like applications) more seriously. But will it deliver?

Other notable features include the iris and fingerprint scanners as well as a heart rate app in case you’re planning on taking a jog now and then. Also, wireless charging is included, so that should be pretty cool. According to Spectator Index, the Samsung S8 is going to be so powerful that it will be able to download 300 megabytes per second with Gigabit LTE. In other words, a two-hour movie could be downloaded in 15 seconds. This may sound like a bit of a stretch, so we’ll have to let the phone speak for itself.

Is it worth upgrading, though? Maybe.
