Sam Nujoma Stadium structure in the spotlight

THE City of Windhoek is currently conducting an infrastructure investigation of Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The city has announced that a group of structural engineers started an assessment of the stadium on 2 November.

The investigation will be conducted in several phases and will culminate in a report to the city by 30 April 2024.

The report will recommend the necessary repairs to upgrade the facilities in line with international standards.

This follows a directive by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the structural shortcomings of the stadium.

The CAF in April 2021 declared that the stadium is not fit to host international matches.

This declaration was followed by the Namibia Football Association having to pay a fine of US$6 000 for lacking technical facilities.
