SA Q3 business confidence at 16-yr peak

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s business confidence jumped to a 16-year peak in the third quarter of this year, buoyed by lower interest rates and the international economic upturn, a leading index showed yesterday.

The news adds to a raft of positive data on the continent’s biggest economy, and will fuel hope that expansion will keep its momentum after accelerating strongly in the first two quarters of 2004. The BCI index produced by Rand Merchant Bank and the Bureau for Economic Research rose to 79 points from 71 points during the second quarter -its highest since the second quarter of 1988 when it was 84.-Nampa-ReutersThe BCI index produced by Rand Merchant Bank and the Bureau for Economic Research rose to 79 points from 71 points during the second quarter -its highest since the second quarter of 1988 when it was 84.-Nampa-Reuters
