SABMILLER planned to invest US$125 million (N$1 billion) in a new brewery and soft-drink factory in Angola, the brewer said on Friday.
The facility would produce 500 000 hectolitres of beer and 200 000 hectolitres of soft drinks annually, said Samuel Jeronimo, the manager of the company’s Angolan unit. The investment would bring to US$250m the amount the company has invested in Angola over the past 18 months.
‘It’s the country we’re investing the most money in, in Africa,’ Jeronimo said. ‘It has been for the past two years.’ SABMiller generates about 10 per cent of its earnings in Africa and is investing to increase earnings from the rest of the continent. Last month it said it expected the four breweries to open in Africa this year to be the most profitable of the 10 plants it was starting around the world. -Business Report
