Russia wants more trade with Nam

RUSSIA is keen to strengthen economic and cultural ties with Namibia, said the visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister here on Friday.

Speaking during a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Marco Hausiku in Windhoek, Alexander Saltanov said Russia and Namibia have strong political ties dating back to the struggle of independence for Namibia and because of this Namibia is high on Russia’s African Foreign Policy. “We want to cooperate more with Namibia in areas of trade and cultural exchanges. We have both gone through some transitional periods and this somehow affected our relations.Russia lost some friends and since we have gotten out of the transitional period, we are working towards re-cementing our relations with our friends,” said Saltanov. He said his office would push other Russian Ministries to increase cooperation with their Namibian counterparts.”Africa is becoming an important trend in Russian Foreign Policy. We have already drawn an action plan aimed at restoring relations and boosting them so that we can work together with Africa in facing the challenges facing the world today,” said Saltanov.Saltanov invited officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit his country in order to further strengthen the already existing ties.He said establishing strong relations between the two countries would not be an easy process, therefore, it requires both countries to be committed and dedicated to strengthen their relations.-Nampa”We want to cooperate more with Namibia in areas of trade and cultural exchanges. We have both gone through some transitional periods and this somehow affected our relations.Russia lost some friends and since we have gotten out of the transitional period, we are working towards re-cementing our relations with our friends,” said Saltanov.
