DUE to an earlier busy schedule I was not able to study my detailed Telecom billing earlier.
Sometime this year Telecom hiked their prices with no warning to the public. This I have checked out with a number of people and it was news to them that we now pay per SECOND – the rate is applicable nationally. For those of us in rural areas a local call 38c for 2 minutes. If we go to the nearest town – only 5 km away we pay 85c per minute – the same charge as a call to Windhoek 750 km away. However those who live in Windhoek probably have a radius of 5-10 km and will only pay the 38c for 2 minutes. Those of us who live in the rural areas are living in isolated situations and are therefore far more dependent on our landline but have to be penalised for it.Recently there was a survey of Telecom, telephonically.I wonder how many of those being questioned were aware of the horrendous price they are paying.I personally had not at that stage done a study of my detailed billing otherwise there would not have been much positive to say to the one doing the survey.Telecom is making profits hand over fist at the cost of the rural subscriber.Have they no conscience? What is their reason for this alarming hike? Why no notification to subscribers?
