Runner Hilaria breaks Namibian record

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s 2006 Sportswoman of the year Hilaria Johannes again shattered the Namibian 21 km road running record when she competed at the Dubai RAK International half marathon at the weekend.

Johannes ended 12th in the women’s race in a time of 72 minutes 18 seconds, an improvement from her previous time of 72:32 which she recorded at the Lahore Marathon in Pakistan on January 14 this year. According to the Namibia Sport web site, Johannes was pleased with her result, saying “I ran a fantastic race.”It was a nice course, but the weather was a bit hot.The pace was very fast, but I managed to stay with the leaders until about 16 km when they pulled away.I’m very happy with my time and I feel (I am) in good shape,” she said.Johannes will now prepare to defend her title at the Old Mutual Nedbank Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town on April 7.Last year she won the 21 km event in a new Namibian record time of 73:35.Meanwhile, another long distance runner Beata Naigambo ended fourth in the Nedbank South African Marathon Championships last Saturday. Both Naigambo and Johannes have been taken up in the shadow team set for the All Africa Games in Algeria in July 2007.NampaAccording to the Namibia Sport web site, Johannes was pleased with her result, saying “I ran a fantastic race.”It was a nice course, but the weather was a bit hot.The pace was very fast, but I managed to stay with the leaders until about 16 km when they pulled away.I’m very happy with my time and I feel (I am) in good shape,” she said.Johannes will now prepare to defend her title at the Old Mutual Nedbank Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town on April 7.Last year she won the 21 km event in a new Namibian record time of 73:35.Meanwhile, another long distance runner Beata Naigambo ended fourth in the Nedbank South African Marathon Championships last Saturday. Both Naigambo and Johannes have been taken up in the shadow team set for the All Africa Games in Algeria in July 2007.Nampa
