Ministry of Mines and Energy inaugurated the electrification of peri-urban Ndama Extension 6 and Ngcove Primary School at Rundu on Friday.
Deputy minister of mines and energy Kornelia Shikongo during the event said this project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy.
The project was implemented at a cost of N$8,9 million.
According to Shikongo, the ministry increased the rural electrification rate from 34% in 2015 to 50% by 2025.
Shikongo said this project provides new economic opportunities and jobs, and empowers communities, especially women, children and young people.
Shikongo said modern and reliable infrastructure is critical for sustained economic growth.
“Access to electricity is not just a matter of convenience but a fundamental human right and a crucial enabler of progress. With this project, we are not merely lighting up homes but igniting the potential within every member of our communities.” Shikongo said.
Meanwhile, Nored acting chief executive Toivo Shoovaleka says the main objective of the project was to provide connection to 150 households as well as to create an additional 150 exits.
