Rundu Chiefs keep survival hopes alive

Rundu Chiefs kept alive their chances of survival in the Namibia Premier League with a 1-0 victory against Ramblers in Windhoek on Saturday.

Sylvester Namene scored the winning goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half, after Barnard Horaseb was fouled in the box.

Chiefs showed more determination and could have won by a larger margin, but wasted several other goal scoring opportunities in the final stages.

Horaseb, Uaseuko Katjukua and Andreas Nangoro all came close, while Katjukua also hit the crossbar from a corner in injury time.

The result sees Chiefs moving off the foot of the table p to second last position on the log on 15 points.

Eleven Arrows went to the bottom of the log after losing 1-0 to United Stars in Rundu.

Thomas Muketiwa scored the winning goal for Stars who remain ninth on the log on 23 points, while Arrows are now bottom on 15 points.

Blue Boys are also still in the relegation zone on 16 points, after losing 1-0 at home to Orlando Pirates, with Pirates’ midfielder Marvin Areseb scoring the winning goal.

Pirates, meanwhile, moved up to third place of the log on 38 points.

In Walvis Bay, Blue Waters beat Civics 2-1 to move up to fifth place on the log on 32 points.

Edom Dominic and Hendrik Somaeb scored for Blue Waters, while Quinton Khuruseb replied for Civics, who are seventh on the log on 29 points.
