Rukoro not a member of Nudo – Kauandenge

The National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) leadership has distanced itself from claims made by former Namibia Football Association (NFA) secretary general Barry Rukoro that he is set to compete for the party presidency.

This comes after a poster of Rukoro’s campaign circulated on social media over the weekend.

“Vote Barry Rukoro for Nudo president: Taking action, getting results. Better community relations and prompt results,” reads the poster.

Other candidates vying for the position are the incumbent party president, Esther Muinjangue, and secretary general Josef Kauandenge.

Kauandenge says Rukoro is not a member of Nudo.

“In my office, I don’t have any record that he is a member of Nudo, nor is he in any structures of the party,” he says.

Kauandenge has challenged Rukoro to produce his membership card.

Nudo vice secretary general Joseph Uapingene says there is nothing in the party’s office that shows that Rukoro is running for party president.

“Maybe he was speaking somewhere. I just saw the poster when someone showed it to me. I am so surprised that maybe he is going to use magic to go to congress,” he says.

Nudo will have its elective congress on 27 April in Windhoek.

Rukoro has opted to play his cards close to his chest, saying information about his candidacy will be revealed in the coming two weeks.

“I cannot say much right now,” he says.

He has also confirmed that he is a member of Nudo by birth.

“I was born in Nudo. My parents and great-great-grandparents have always been Nudo. I was never anything else,” he says.

Rukoro served as head of the NFA secretariat for almost 12 years and was dismissed in 2019.
