Rukoro new FNB Group CEO

PROMINENT business personality Vekuii Reinhard Rukoro has left Sanlam Namibia Limited to become the new Group Chief Executive Officer of FNB Namibia Holdings (FNB).

Yesterday’s announcement of Rukoro’s appointment came as no surprise, as speculation had already been rife that the then Sanlam Namibia Managing Director was earmarked for the top post at the leading commercial bank. Rukoro’s resignation from Sanlam is with effect from today. The other vacant post at FNB, that of the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, was filled by Leonard Jack Haynes, a South African banking specialist, who started his fulltime banking career in 1984.Haynes has been engaged on a contractual basis and his term will expire after two years.Haynes, who was the FNB Head of Strategic Credit in the Corporate Transactional Banking Division in Johannesburg, holds a B.Com Honours degree and an MBA.He joined FNB in 1994.Haynes replaces the late Lazarus Ipangelwa, who died in a car accident in September last year.At yesterday’s press briefing held in Windhoek, Rukoro said he was ready for the new task.”I am about to leave a great Namibian company (Sanlam Namibia) where I spent the last six years.I am leaving that company in an extremely great shape with its future sustained profitability and financial soundness fully secured.”I am about to join another great company with immense challenges and huge potential for becoming an even greater Namibian company.”Rukoro holds a law degree and has vast experience in the financial services sector. The Board Chairman FNB Namibia Holdings, Dieter Voigts, said the entire FNB team welcomed the two new CEOs.He said Haynes had been appointed because there were few banking specialists in Namibia and, since the bank contributes 90 per cent of the FNB group’s business, the most suitable candidate had to be selected for the post.Rukoro’s resignation from Sanlam is with effect from today. The Board Chairman FNB Namibia Holdings, Dieter Voigts, said the entire FNB team welcomed the two new CEOs.He said Haynes had been appointed because there were few banking specialists in Namibia and, since the bank contributes 90 per cent of the FNB group’s business, the most suitable candidate had to be selected for the post.
