Rugby refs agree to handle matches

THE Namibia Rugby Referee’s Association has finally agreed to continue handling the remainder of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) league matches.

The decision was taken during a meeting between the NRU executive and the referees’ representatives. Last weekend, referees abandoned NRU league matches after complaints about the N$50 fee they are paid per match, as well as outstanding payments to some of the referees. The association’s chairperson, Johan Tredoux, said yesterday that a number of issues affecting the referees were discussed but he could not disclose the exact outcome, as he did not have the minutes of the meeting with him.He said the association does not receive any funding from the NRU and it found it difficult to secure a single sponsorship. The association has 32 referees but it does utilise the services of teacher referees for some league matches.According to Tredoux, some referees have no monthly income and this forced the association to seek payment for their services. The league matches will resume tomorrow, July 30.The matches are as follows: 15h30: United 1 vs Wanderers 1 at United Field.14h00: United 2 vs Western Suburbs 1 at United Field.15h30: Reho Falcon 1 vs Mariental at Rehoboth Field.-NampaLast weekend, referees abandoned NRU league matches after complaints about the N$50 fee they are paid per match, as well as outstanding payments to some of the referees. The league matches will resume tomorrow, July 30.The matches are as follows: 15h30: United 1 vs Wanderers 1 at United Field.14h00: United 2 vs Western Suburbs 1 at United Field.15h30: Reho Falcon 1 vs Mariental at Rehoboth Field.-Nampa
