A qualified biochemist, Rowan Summers is definitely one of Namibia’s leading male models. The ambitious young model has already worked in India, Cape Town, Namibia and is now walking at Intermoda Fashion Week in Mexico after spending some time in New York where he is signed to Wilson Model Management.
caught up with him to talk about the latest developments in his successful modelling career…
First of all, last September I left for a six month contract job in Manzanillo, Mexico on a resort where I worked as an animator. During this period, I planned my trip to US as it always was my dream to see the country. In March 2018, I left for Atlanta and afterwards, New York.
I am signed with Wilson Model Management in New York, my mother agency. It’s great working with them, they gave me accommodation when I arrived in New York, introduced me to top international agencies like Wilhelmina and DNA, and coordinated shoots and editorials with top photographers and magazines.
In Namibia, the market is very small and still up and coming. In the US, the market is without a doubt incredible and of its own calibre.
Editorial and cover shoots for Coolkorea and test shoots with New York-based photographers in the streets of New York.
I can’t exactly answer that question truthfully because I never asked clients why they did not choose me.
What I can tell you is that being an African ,especially from a country called Namibia that the majority of the world don’t know, creates some kind of curiosity and as a result it could count in my favor.
I am planning to head back to New York or Europe later this year or next year and take it from there. As for the next few years, there are plans, but I prefer to work on right now and that will determine the next set of months which eventually will lead to more plans in the future.

I exercise at least four days a week which includes going to the gym, running and swimming. I make sure I stay hydrated with water, maintain a sleep schedule of seven to eight hours a day, eat healthy by following my (80-20) diet. The golden rule of the 80-20 diet is based on the fact that when I choose my meal or snack for the specific time period, I make sure that it consists of 80% healthy food and 20% unhealthy food. How do I know what is healthy or not? I use my biochemistry knowledge to help me.
