Role Of Governors

Role Of Governors

WHAT is the actual role and purpose of Governors in Namibia? Are they being elected to represent and protect the interests of the ruling Party or whatever party they belong to? Or are they elected to promote and develop the specific regions and its people? Are they really competent people? Do they know what is expected of them as Governors from a certain region? I read in the newspaper about the ‘Butcher’ incident in the south; the victim from Kalkrand who was killed.

Her parents had to come to Windhoek to identify the body, but could not make the trip because they did not have the money for the transport as their only breadwinner was killed. A newspaper stepped in to bring the mother to Windhoek.Couldn’t the Police have performed this task? No church, no politician offered to do so either. The Governor in Kalkrand was sitting in her office keeping the chair and phone warm, and I wonder if she tried to help the family in question.I want to use the following example not because I want to compare Namibia to USA but because I think we can learn a lesson from them to develop and change Namibia.President George Bush was not elected for the sake of the Presidency.People took notice of him while he was Governor of Texas. Why did they notice him? People perhaps realised that he could do good things for America if he was elected. That means he must have done things for Texas.I know that we are not on the same level as America. The Governors in the south, for example, can draw up a plan, invite investors to the south in partnership with Namdeb and start processing diamonds there.Just look at the unemployment in the south. The Caprivi Governor could perhaps invite investors to develop their region for tourism. They have it all, they just need to come up with a plan and be creative.Namibia has the resources, it’s just that the people are lazy and don’t want to promote one another. They only want to promote people from their own tribes. What I am also saying is that Governors need training and after the training they need to produce the goods.Need Results WindhoekA newspaper stepped in to bring the mother to Windhoek.Couldn’t the Police have performed this task?
