TELEVISION personality, brand ambassador, entrepreneur and master of ceremonies Robyn Nakaambo was an anchor at the second annual Basadi in Music Awards (Bimas) held in Johannesburg, South Africa, this month. Nakaambo recently spoke to The Weekender about her experience.
The awards event was launched last year to celebrate and honour women in the South African music industry.
“I was the Basadi in Music Awards official red-carpet host. As Sofnfree’s Namibian brand ambassador, I also conducted a few interviews. I was also a guest presenter for the award ceremony to announce the best Amapiano artist of the year, which was a category sponsored by Sofnfree,” Nakaambo said.
Nakaambo said the event was spectacular and very well-organised. She mostly liked the fact that it brought women from all walks of life together. She was pleased to see people celebrating one another in their different industries.
“The power in the room was phenomenal from the likes of PJ Powers, Thando Thabete, Nhlanhla Nciza, among so many other influential women. Besides the list of outstanding women A-listers, I also had the privilege of networking with South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s Dichaba Phalatse. It was a tremendous platform to be surrounded by such excellence to learn from,” she said.
Nakaambo said at the event she learnt the importance of teaming up and that collaboration can make a dream work.
“I have always known this, but the extent to which these different entities came together to put together this stellar show was amazing. No one said I won’t do this because it’s the next persons job, it’s showbiz and the show must go on and it needs to be the greatest show we can give, period,” she said.
Nakaambo urges Namibians to showcase their talents outside the country. She said it is time that we need to be more visible to the world. “We as Namibians have so much talent. Let’s be audacious with our dreams and be a beacon of hope to the girl and boy child following in our footsteps,” Nakaambo said.
The founder of Fluffy’s Artistry, Fluffy Nikodemus, also attended the awards event.
