Roads Authority confirms eight roads closed after flooding in ||Kharas

The Roads Authority has announced that eight roads in the ||Kharas region have been temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall and flooding.

“The Roads Authority (RA) hereby notifies the public that numerous roads in the ||Kharas region have sustained significant damage due to heavy rainfall and flooding,” the RA said in a statement on Saturday.

The RA said the closures are necessary to ensure the safety of all road users.

Road users have been urged to drive with caution and use alternative routes where available.

The affected roads include district roads D205, D269, D462, D463, D459, D417 and D421, as well as main road M25 between Karasburg and Aroab.

The RA said some routes, such as district road D417, currently have no alternative options available.

Other routes have been redirected through trunk and main roads linking areas such as Ariamsvlei, Grünau, Keetmanshoop, Aus and Rosh Pinah.

The RA added that some alternative routes, especially in remote areas, are only suitable for four-wheel drive vehicles.

The RA said it is monitoring the situation and will carry out assessments and repairs as conditions improve.
