LAST week’s episode of South African reality show ‘Rich Kids’ was not the most interesting. That is, until after it aired.
It featured a “rich kid” named Alekssandre (also known as Aleks), who said he was from Angola and had a wealthy mom. From the beginning something was a bit off because, unlike previous episodes of ‘Rich Kids’, we didn’t get a tour of Aleks’ mansion or see his cars. All we got was an exterior shot and him saying he lives in a house of people who love each other (or something like that).
In the episode we saw Aleks go for a massage at the super-swanky Radisson Blu hotel in Sandton, go shopping (twice – he allegedly spent N$300 000 in 15 minutes), get a tattoo and, of course, pop bottles at a trendy club.
But soon after the episode aired, some people started calling bullsh*t on the show. But things only really popped off on Twitter on Friday when one Andy Dlamini shared a series of tweets in which he describes how the actual owner of the house (Andre) was passed out drunk while the show was being filmed and that Aleks convinced him and his friend to “act cool” for the cameras.
Later, it seems, Dlamini was not so cool with the act after all. He tweeted: “So we all agree…that we will tell Aleks that we can’t be associated with such fake living on TV! Take us off! Aleks tells us that Vuzu agreed to reshoot his thing and take us off completely and Andre’s house. Everything! We happy now. We find out that Vuzu ended up airing the episode because Aleks forged our release forms. So they think we cool to be on TV.” (sic)
Aleks since hit back on Twitter, tweeting “please I beg may anyone please show me the moment I ever claimed that house was mine??? Ever ever ever??? Or my parents house???”
He added “…I said I wasn’t rich, but I was hard working and that we are all rich (on the) inside”.
