Reward Our Authors

Dear minister Sanet Steenkamp, let me start by commending your outstanding leadership.

Although words are not sufficient to narrate your achievements, they are visible.

Before you assumed the role of minister, I saw how you actively brought change to the education sector.

I would like to tell you, dear minister, that there are many upcoming writers in our country. Writers who focus on fiction and non-fiction are working to address, restore and maintain the culture and history of our country.

I am humbly requesting your ministry to recognise those writers and acknowledge the relevance of their work.

Up until today, Namibians carry prowess as a result of writers who laid a foundation, like the late tatekulu Daniel Namuhuja and the late tatekulu Petrus Amakali.

We still browse through shelves, looking for their work to learn from them.

And we still have some of them, whom we can rely on when we need assistance, like tatekulu Lesheni Nghifikwa, tatekulu Paavo Hasheela and tatekulu Angula Ndjembo.

We should have a look at how our sister countries reward their authors.

Our country could learn from other nations about how they manage to have an inclusive policy for their authors.
