Record set straight on CoD’s Govt cheque

ALLEGATIONS by CoD leader Ben Ulenga that party member and fellow parliamentarian Nora Schimming-Chase was unauthorised to receive a Government cheque for the party were refuted by the National Assembly yesterday.

Schimming-Chase was authorised to pick up the cheque for N$265 000 from the offices at Parliament, said its Secretary, Nama Goabab. CoD National Chairman Tsudao Gurirab, also an MP, laid a charge of theft against Schimming-Chase over the weekend. In a statement issued yesterday, Goabab said “the last written confirmation from the CoD was on August 25 2005 that Schimming Chase and Kala Gertze had been authorised to collect and sign cheques for CoD.”In this context, on July 8 2007 Hon Schimming-Chase picked up and signed for CoD’s cheque. All political parties in the House are to do the same.”Goabab said after Schimming-Chase had collected the cheque, Ulenga sent a letter to him stating that only Ulenga, Gurirab and two additional CoD members, Rosa Namises and a certain Kapi, were authorised to collect party cheques.”For the misunderstanding that followed, the Office of the Secretary of the National Assembly is not responsible. It has been mistakenly reported in the media that the cheque was wrongly given to Hon Schimming-Chase,” Goabab said.CoD National Chairman Tsudao Gurirab, also an MP, laid a charge of theft against Schimming-Chase over the weekend. It has been mistakenly reported in the media that the cheque was wrongly given to Hon Schimming-Chase,” Goabab said.
