Former Bank Windhoek Opuwo branch employee Nico Rebebe was arrested at Opuwo at his girlfriend’s house on Thursday in connection with the alleged theft of N$2 million from the bank.

This was confirmed by Kunene police regional commander commissioner James Nderura.

Rebebe has been on the run since January.

Prior to the arrest, police received a tip-off that Rebebe was back at Opuwo and was contemplating handing himself over to the police, said Nderura.

“We ambushed him and arrested him at the girlfriend’s house,” he added.

According to Nderura, Rebebe had reportedly been in Angola before recently returning to Opuwo.
