Looking for a Namibian cooking show? The ‘Real Good Kitchen’ series might just be that. The series, which was officially launched in Windhoek on Tuesday, 22 August, will see Namibians from various cultures cook up traditional dishes with proudly Namibian brand Real Good Chicken.
Real Good Chicken is produced by Namib Poultry Industries, a subsidiary of the Namib Mills Investment group.
The initiative is meant to promote our locally produced chicken and interestingly enough, it is one of the three brands currently produced by Namib Poultry which is a market leader in the chicken industry.
With chicken cuts available such as mixed portions, whole-birds, braai packs, drumsticks, thighs, leg quarters and others, the cooks on the show have to show the audience what culinary skills they’ve got, based on their cultures and traditions.
The personalities include actor and radio presenter Adriano Visagie, who is described as someone who likes to eat healthy. Elsabé Josab loves exploring the kitchen and is usually the one who does the cooking. Ester ‘Bunny’ Shivute is “obsessed with kapana spice”, peels tomatoes and thickens her Top Score porridge with mahangu. Jaco Zondagh uses his recipe books and Kuuva Kenyama, a mother, feels that onions are always necessary and cooks healthy meals for family. Then there’s Thereza Kahorongo, a mother of a 19-year-old, who worked in the tourism industry for years and always challenges chefs to make something different for foreign visitors.
Each character will have three recipes/shows in total. These are divided into the following: budget recipes, special occasion recipes and cultural recipes, and the presenters will share tips while they’re busy cooking.
Speaking at the launch, Ashante Mannetti, corporate social responsibility and stakeholder officer in public relations at Namib Mills, said, “The series hopes to further encourage the use of the product amongst Namibians; entrench the Real Good brand into consumers’ minds with the aim of becoming a household name.”
As the only large scale local supplier, Namib Poultry Industries acts a major player in the poultry market as they currently cater to almost two thirds of the Namibian economy with chicken products.
“The Real Good Kitchen series will also encourage consumers to engage with the brand, be a part of the variety Real Good offers, encourage healthy eating and home cooking, and show off how versatile it can be in the kitchen,” Mannetti said.
There will be 18 television shows, each consisting of three minutes which will be aired on both NBC and One Africa Television.
The shows will air from 11 September at 19h55 on NBC. On One Africa, ‘Real Good Kitchen’ will also debut on 11 September, but will air on 20h00. New episodes air every Monday while you can also catch the repeats on Wednesdays.
“As a company, we are very excited to introduce this to the public today, because we using real Namibians, with very little TV experience, Namibians that have a real passion for cooking and using a product that is really good, real tasty and real tender,” Mannetti concluded.
