Raymond van Schoor Foundation raises N$100 000

THE development of Namibian cricket is expected to receive a significant boost in the near future, after the Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation hosted a very successful fundraising gala dinner on Friday evening.

The Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation is a charitable organisation that aims to assist young Namibian cricketers to fulfil their dreams and live out their passion, by developing their talent as cricketers.

The foundation successfully raised N$100 000 through an auction during a gala dinner that was attended by 150 supporters on Friday evening.

The event was the foundations’ first fund raising event after its launch in February this year. Auctioned items included number 27 national team jerseys of the late Raymond van Schoor, as well as an autographed picture of Raymond and the Namibian national team.

Raymond, who represented Namibia as cricketer since 2002, where he played in the u13 national team, tragically passed away in November last year. In remembrance of Raymond, Zandr eacute; la Cock founded the foundation with Cricket Namibia president, Richard Frankle and national player Sarel Burger as co trustees.

The Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation aims to raise additional funds this year through a cricket tournament for u11 and u13 teams, as well as a golf day. The trustees have invited members of the public to assist them in making a difference in children’s cricket careers and help them to achieve their goals.

The foundation will initially focus on u11 and u13 players, who are dedicated, motivated, talented and chasing their dreams of becoming successful cricketers at international level.

Raymond was one of Namibia’s most decorated cricket players in recent history. First achieving national colours for Namibia’s u13 national team in 2002, ‘Razorblade’ as he was known to his friends and team mates, went on to play for every junior team until earning his first senior national team cap in 2008.

From that day onward, the versatile Van Schoor collected many accolades at international events while being an essential part of the national team, which he captained for a brief stint during 2013 and 2014. His exceptional performances earned him the prestigious award of being Namibia’s Cricketer of the Year in 2012.

The trustees of the Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation are always excited to share and discuss their ideas and passion on the development of young cricketers in Namibia with anyone interested in joining them in making a difference and can be contacted at rvscricf@iway.na.
