WOMEN and children remained at the receiving end of violent crimes committed over the last week, the latest Police crime bulletin indicates.

* A 42-year-old woman was raped and strangled to death at Outapi on her way home from a cuca shop on Sunday. Her three-year-old son was also strangled, but he survived the attack.The suspect, a Namibian man whose age is not known, has been arrested on charges of rape, murder, and attempted murder.* Police are also investigating the rape of a 17-year-old girl at Grootfontein last Thursday.The victim was working as a babysitter for the suspect, who has not been arrested yet.* At Okahao, a newborn baby boy was killed and buried in a mahangu field.The baby’s 21-year-old mother has been arrested in connection with the murder.* Police have also reported the death at Grootfontein of 52-year-old Elika Sheehama, who fell backwards on a concrete surface and died on the spot.Sheehama was fighting with a suspect over N$10 owed to him.According to post-mortem reports, he had been suffering from a heart problem for some time.No arrest has been made.* Police also reported three suicides over the last week.Twenty-year-old Esther Iimbale hanged herself with a rope in her sleeping hut at Okahao, while at Tsumeb, 49-year-old Stefanus Kakonda hanged himself with a rope in his shack.At Grootfontein, 41-year-old Aina Shikongo hanged herself from a tree after an argument with her husband.Her three-year-old son was also strangled, but he survived the attack.
