Ramblers turn on the style

Windhoek Optics Ramblers turned on the style after halftime to beat African Stars 5-2 in the opening match of the Humphries Security Guard Division Soccer Tournament on Saturday.

Stars took an early lead through a brilliant goal by Stanley Kaizemi in the 15th minute. Kaizemi, who had been out for two seasons due to a neck injury, received a cross from Nico Andima which he blasted past Esau Tjiouro in Ramblers’ goals.Stars did well to thwart Ramblers for the rest of the first half, and although Ramblers equalised shortly after the break through Costa Khaiseb, Stars once again took the lead through Nico Andima.But then their luck ran out.Stars had their goalie Urorua and midfielder Ndapewa Simon sent off after each had received two yellow cards, and the cracks started appearing in their defence.Ramblers, who were fielding a new striking combination in Khaiseb, Dokkies Schmidt and Enrico Botes, moved up a gear and started laying siege to Stars’ goals.Khaiseb went on to score a hattrick, while Botes and Schmidt each also scored one to give them a comfortable 5-2 win.In the second match on Saturday evening Buschschule Civics edged out United Africa Tigers in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes.Civics had by far the most possession but they could not crack Tigers’ defence.Tigers’ goalie Fox Nambundunga was in great form, pulling off some excellent saves, while the rest of Tigers’ defence also did well to keep Civics’ strikers at bay.For Civics, Maleagi Ngarizemo and Mentos Hipondoka were solid in defence, as were Congo Hindjou and Rudi Louw in midfield.Their new signing Killian Kavari impressed down the right flank, but their strikers Floris Diergaardt and William Chilufya couldn’t find the back of the net.Nelson Akwenye who has been struggling to get his international clearance for the past season, came on for Civics in the second half, but he too, could not find the net.Civics’ goalie Heribert Kapeng was their hero in the penalty shoot-out as he saved two shots and scored the last from the spot himself to give Civics a comfortable 4-1 win.Yesterday, Stars blasted seven goals past Invincibles in the second Group A encounter.Invincibles, who are hoping to be promoted to the Premier League, did well to trail Stars 3-2 at halftime, but the floodgates opened after the break.Stars’ goals were scored by Nico Andima, Ernst Bock, Bokke Tjozongoro, Samson Kawawa, Ruben Muharukua, Charles Hindjou and Magnus Snewe.In yesterday’s final Group B match Tigers produced a shock to beat Black Africa 1-0 through a goal by veteran midfielder Page Ananias.The Humphries Security Division soccer competition continues on Wednesday evening when Ramblers play Invincibles in Group A and Civics play Black Africa in Group B.The top two teams in each group will qualify for the semifinals next
