FARMERS fear that their young crops might die if no rain is received soon, but the Windhoek Weather Bureau says rain is on the way.
Communal farmers in the North planted their mahangu fields after good early rains in November, but a dry spell started in early December.
According to weather forecaster Olga Tjiueza, the rainfall prospects for the rest of this week are good and places such as Grootfontein and Rundu received some showers yesterday.
She said the current high temperatures are caused by a high-pressure system in the mid-level that has suppressed rainfall chances in most parts of the country.
‘There is now moisture in the northeastern parts of the country, which will be extended to the central and northern parts of the country by Wednesday,’ she said.
