After disappearing from the music scene for three years, gospel musician Sovita Joshua, or the ‘Queen of Gospel’, has announced her return with a new album in the works.
Joshua was last in studio in 2022.
The musician, who spreads the gospel through music, says she took a hiatus from music to focus on developing other aspects of her life.
“I decided to become a full-time businesswoman because in Namibia being a musician alone will not put food on the table. I am dedicated to releasing new music because of my musical gift that God gave me. If God gives you the gift then you need to use it, and that’s why I decided to balance the situation to do both music and business at the same time,” she says.
She has ventured into selling clothes, hair, cellphones and cellphone accessories, among other items.
Joshua says her new album will carry messages of her recent life experiences.
“The new album means a lot to me because I went through a lot in my life, mostly in the beginning of last year. Through the album, the message will be more of telling people to repent to stop doing evil things, to never hold grudges, to always make peace … whatever I had went through, the word of God helped me to stand up and regain my strength again,” she says.
Joshua says it is challenging to make a living from music only in Namibia. She urges artists to find side hustles and diversify their streams of income.
“I advise my fellow musicians out there: singing alone in Namibia will not feed you. It is good if you can also have a side hustle. Today I am happy because my upcoming album is proudly sponsored by Sovita’s Collections, of which I am the chief executive. I do love doing music because music can really comfort someone in life,” says Joshua.
