Quality Futsal Club closed in on log leaders Chile after two big victories over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon they beat Boston Madrid 7-0 and followed that up with another commanding 8-0 victory against Demia Futsal Club a few hours later to move to within six points of log leaders Chile.
That saw them moving up to 68 points from 25 matches in second position, still six points behind Chile, but with a match in hand.
With only four matches remaining, Chile are, however, firm favourites to win the title, but Quality captain Eddy Solunga over the weekend said their title challenge is not over yet.
“We are still lying second and we are still chasing Chile. So we are just taking it one game at a time, and three points at a time. You never know with futsal – they might drop points, and then we have to be ready to take the opportunity if that happens,” he said.
Against Boston Madrid they took a while to take control and only led 2-0 at the break after a brace by Ken Salote.
Boston Madrid came out attacking after the break, pushing hard to open their account, but Sebastiao Borges struck with a fine volley midway through the second half to put Quality in control.
The match was tarnished by a big fight in the final minutes that led to a lengthy delay, before Borges and Ezio Chivas of Quality, and Harry Jahs of Boston Madrid got red cards and were sent off.
When the match resumed Quality stepped up the tempo adding four more goals, with Salote adding another brace, Luis Solunga one, and Wesley Bock an own goal.
Solunga said it was a tough match.
“It was a very tricky and complicated game. They area very good side, but they were also defending very deep, which made it harder for us to score as many goals as we wished to in the first half,” he said.
“I knew the breakthrough was going to come, but the players were just not connecting in the final third. But the build-up, everything, it was going perfect, just the finishing that let us down a bit,” he added.
Against Demia, Salote was once again their top scorer with a hattrick, while Luis and Chisloth Nunda each scored two goals, and Eddy Solunga one.
Chile and Quality are well ahead of the rest of the field, but the battle for third place intensified with several teams now in the running.
The X Men beat The Mavericks 7-1 to move into third position on 53 points, but Windhoek Futsal Club are just one point behind them after beating JAC Motors 6-4.
In other results, Ragazzi FC beat WIAS FC 7-1 to move into eighth position on 39 points, while Ballers FC and Ineos FC drew 4-4.
Ballers remain seventh on the log on 40 points, while Ineos are ninth on 28 points.
